The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it deems “unjustified” travel bans imposed by the US on five European individuals involved in combating digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official has said.

EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’

European leaders such as the French president accused Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans targeted figures who have been central to campaigns to introduce legislation regulating American tech companies.

“For too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to pressure US companies to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
